AIAG-VDA and SAE-J1739 DFMEA Methods, Similarities, Differences and Impact on the Auto Industry

In June 2019 the AIAG combined with the VDA to publish the AIAG-VDA FMEA Handbook. In January 2021 the SAE published the SAE J-1739 FMEA Standard, its first revision in 12 years.

Since the AIAG FMEA 3rd edition FMEA Manual was published in July 2001 the current version of the AIAG FMEA manual has been the technical equivalent of the current SAE J-1739 FMEA standard.

This is no longer the case.
